January 2018

Happy New Year 2018! I hope you had a successful, healthy, and joyful 2017. If you are like us here at Rocket Software, you have jumped right into the new year and are already running at full speed toward executing your plans, objectives, and goals.

In 2018 – actually, in just four short months – we will mark our 28th Rocket birthday. We will celebrate again this year by reaching out to our customers and our partners to thank you for your business and for the trust you put in us every day.

At the same time, we plan to celebrate the opening of our newest software engineering offices in India as part of our global Rocket Centers of Excellence initiative. For Rocket, 2018 will be a year where we focus even more on our software engineering talent, skills, and capabilities around the globe, and we are excited to welcome an amazing group of talented experts to the Rocket family.

This process started at the end of 2017 when we announced our new Chief Product Officer, Anjali Arora. Anjali has big plans, objectives, and goals for 2018, including hosting hackathons to drive innovation, onboarding many new engineering leaders, and hiring an even bigger group of summer interns to introduce even more younger engineers to mainframe and midrange environments.

We know that at the core, our value to you is all about our software engineering, our domain expertise, our product design and quality, and our ability to innovate and deliver that innovation to you. We remind ourselves of that each day. And we will deliver more of that to you in 2018.

I hope to see you this year during one of my trips across the US or to Europe, Asia, or Australia. Until then, I want to wish you all the best in your new year! Together, let’s make 2018 a year to remember.

Christy Moore Album

"January Man" Start the year in a contemplative mood with this pensive folk tune, whose lyrics serve to remind us of the cyclical nature of the seasons, as well as the perpetual forward motion of time. It’s a theme perfectly suited to Christy Moore’s unique voice and arrangement, together which create an almost trance-like quality.

David Gray Album

"January Rain" Though his music is less well-known here in the states, David Gray’s 1998 breakthrough album White Ladder was something of a sensation in the UK, where it remains one of the best-selling albums of all time. Even in the absence of his characteristically poetic lyrics, this instrumental piece demonstrates Gray’s superlative ability to represent complex emotions through music.

Sleeping At Last Album

"January White" It might be the promise of a new year, or it could just be all the snow, but something about January seems to put people in an introspective state of mind. This tranquil, yet hopeful track about the prospects of the new year from indie band Sleeping At Last is another worthwhile addition to the genre.

Goo Goo Dolls Album

"January Friend" Once you’ve given this trio of relatively low-key songs a listen, don’t forget to rock your way into the new year with this upbeat Goo Goo Dolls tune.
