Build It!

Throughout our 27+ year history, we have never lost sight that our success starts with great engineers building great products that solve our customers’ and partners’ important and challenging problems. That’s why Rocket.Build has become such an important part of who we are and how we work as a company.

I’m excited to let you know that Rocket.Build 2017 is taking place this month at our global headquarters in Waltham. 138 Rocketeers from all over the world are coming together to create and innovate around 39 projects. We’ll be working 24 hours a day starting on 22 October, and the winning projects and teams will be announced on the evening of 26 October. In addition to our Rocketeers, we are also inviting members of the Rocket community – customers, partners, colleges, universities, interns, and others – to join us for this exciting “hackathon” week.

The theme of this year’s Rocket.Build is The API Economy. If you stop by our Rocket.Build Lab you’ll also see projects that have to do with machine learning, cognitive computing, security, and other technologies that are important to our customers and partners.

Let me know if you have an idea that you’d like us to “hack on” during our Rocket.Build week. Also, let me know if you have an interest in stopping by to see our hackathon live and in person.

This week I will be speaking about creativity and innovation at Tufts University here in Boston. The timing of my lecture at Tufts couldn’t be more perfect as a prelude to Rocket.Build 2017. I always enjoy speaking to students who have an interest in entrepreneurship, engineering, business, creativity, and innovation.

I hope to see you at Rocket.Build!

PS. For those who have an interest, The Rocket Band will be performing live at the Rocket.Build closing ceremonies at the Hard Rock Café in Boston on Thursday, 26 October. Here are a few of the songs we may be playing that night:

Patti Smith Album

"Because The Night" What could be better than a collaboration between legends Patti Smith and Bruce Springsteen at the height of their musical powers? Not much.

Ozzy Album

"Paranoid" Not only was this one of the earliest songs in the heavy metal genre, it remains one of its most powerful more than 40 years later. Paranoid also made Ozzy Osbourne a household name.

Jefferson Airplane Album

"White Rabbit" What happens when Victorian children’s literature meets the sixties counterculture. Want to know what this song is really about? Go ask Alice!

Pink Floyd Album

"Comfortably Numb" Britain’s Pink Floyd managed to totally reinvent itself every few albums. This song is the gem of the “Roger Waters Is In Charge” era.
