Company
Kawasaki Motors Corp., U.S.A. (Kawasaki) markets and distributes motorcycles, sport bikes, side X-side vehicles, cruisers, and watercrafts. Kawasaki also distributes gasoline engines and professional handheld power products for landscape, industrial, and consumer markets.
Challenge
For years, Kawasaki relied entirely on the mainframe to run its most critical applications and business processes. As the volume of data and information increased, so did the cost of running and managing the system. Kawasaki was simultaneously experiencing an attrition of its mainframe domain experts, leaving the company with a significant skills gap. These business realities — coupled with a shifting global business strategy — convinced Kawasaki leaders it was time to decommission the mainframe and move to a distributed hybrid cloud environment.
Kawasaki began its migration journey knowing that moving off the mainframe would be complicated. It needed to ensure minimal interruption to daily business operations while preserving nearly two decades of documents and data that needed to remain fully accessible to business users throughout the migration. These requirements were complicated by resource limitations, including the number of staff available to focus on the project and the tight timeline to complete the work. Kawasaki needed a partner that could manage the project to efficiently preserve and maintain access to reports and data throughout the migration process while keeping the business running smoothly.
As we embarked on a hybrid cloud migration, it was critical for us to ensure no content was lost in the process. Working with Rocket Software gave us the continuity, experience, and tools to ensure there were little to no disruptions every step of the way.
