Rocket Software Mobius: Content Services that Enable Digital Transformation

If you asked business leaders what their most valuable asset is, most would agree it's their company's data. However, the exponential growth of data—more than 2.5 quintillion bytes of data are created daily—is putting content management teams in a position of trying to eliminate siloed systems, reduce data sprawl and optimize valuable data at a significant disadvantage.

Digital transformation through cloud migration and the ongoing adoption of remote working models has further complicated content workflows. Rocket Software's 2022 survey of more than 500 corporate IT and line of business professionals, titled Content Management: The Movement to Modernization, found employees saving content on shared and personal drives and companies' hybrid cloud migration projects are the greatest challenges organizations face when it comes to content management services.

That is why today, organizations are taking a proactive approach to content management modernization. Forward-thinking organizations are adopting content services that enable digital transformation and equip data management teams with the tools to wrangle up and exploit dark and unstructured data. Businesses worldwide have turned to the Rocket Software Professional Services Team and the Rocket® Mobius content management services platform to simplify data management and enhance the user experience without disruption.

Case Study: Hastings Mutual – A Proactive Approach to Content Management Modernization

For over 130 years, Hastings Mutual Insurance Company has offered quality insurance products to clients throughout the Midwest. With annual direct written premiums totaling around $400 million, nearly 600 agencies and approximately 500 employees, the reputable Midwestern insurer relies heavily on its content management services to ensure the accuracy and availability of its business data.

Since the 1980s, Hastings has been working with a Policy Administration System (PAS) developed in-house. The company had leveraged Rocket Software's Mobius Content Services platform with the PAS to classify, manage and grant access to 4,000 unique document types that spanned back over three decades. Although operations were running optimally, the company realized that its PAS's lack of integration with cloud technologies would hinder its ability to implement innovative tools, like Kubernetes and Dockers, to modernize and streamline processes.

However, the processing and storing of thousands of mission-critical documents over 30-plus years had created havoc within the company's logical partition (LPAR) environment, which would undoubtedly create friction throughout business operations. While cloud migration was essential, Hastings needed to ensure its documents' integrity and its business operations' functionality to maintain customer satisfaction and avoid potential regulatory or legal implications.

Due to its longstanding and positive relationship with Rocket Software and Mobius products, Hastings decided to turn to Rocket Software once again. The Rocket Professional Services team got to work immediately, providing document management expertise and tools to help Hastings clean up its existing LPAR environment. Once documents were classified correctly, Rocket Software and Hastings began the mainframe migration. With Rocket Software's guidance, Hastings continued to generate documents on the mainframe, enabling the company to continue operations without disruption while securely migrating documents from the mainframe to open-source systems.

Through cloud migration, Hastings could pivot to Rocket's Web client, Mobius View, enabling the company to move from Mobius z/OS to Mobius Windows. Now, digital documents are made readily available to end users at the click of a button including mobile devices if so desired, significantly reducing document latency. Additionally, Mobius View's easy-to-use open-source viewing system has modernized and dramatically improved the user experience.

Today, the migration from the mainframe to an open-source hybrid model continues for Hastings Mutual. Thanks to the expertise and guidance the Rocket Professional Services Team provides, the company continues to transfer critical historical documents securely without disrupting operations—enabling Hastings to continue providing support and care to its customers that have made the insurer a household name throughout the Midwest.
