The Movement to Modernization: 2022 Rocket Survey Looks into the Future of Content Management

December 2, 2022

Amidst the COVID-19 pandemic and technological advancements over the last few years, organizations have leaned heavily into digital transformation efforts, leading to both new opportunities and challenges for content management. While the adoption of new technology and remote working models have created some obstacles, the modernization of content management tools and processes is essential to governing and getting the most out of a business's most valuable asset—its data.

To better understand content management operations now and moving forward, Rocket Software generated its 2022 Survey Report: Content Management – The Movement to Modernization. The survey conducted of over 500 IT and line of business professionals uncovered key insights into the challenges of data governance as well as steps businesses are taking to harness their data and modernize content management operations.

Here are a couple of the key findings from the Rocket survey, which was conducted in August of 2022:

Content management solutions must be compatible with cloud and mainframe software

Powerful and secure IT environments and successful content management go hand-in-hand, which is why 74% of respondents said their organization’s content resides both on-premise and in the cloud. With security continuing to be a top priority when it comes to business data, organizations are continuing to opt for hybrid infrastructure. By leveraging both cloud and mainframe technology, businesses are able to provide content management teams with the agility and flexibility to successfully process, store and manage data while ensuring regulatory compliance and data protection within a secure and reliable environment.

Automation and other innovative tools can create significant advantages

While security remains content teams’ top priority when it comes to data management, IT and business line professionals agree the implementation of automation and other innovative technology could significantly ease content management processes. Respondents noted the following features would streamline data governance and ensure maintained compliance within the ever-evolving regulatory markets: the introduction of features that enable them to apply automation and rules-based redaction (full or partial) to protect sensitive data (62%), manage content types regardless of size or origin (61%), have a single view of content from across multiple, disparate repositories, databases and file systems (61%) and access content anywhere, anytime on any device (60%).

In today’s data-driven world, the inability to effectively manage content can be devastating to business outcomes. Organizations that are unprepared to handle vast amounts of data or are unequipped to successfully utilize their most valuable data leave themselves vulnerable to falling behind the competition. Rocket’s survey shows that modernizing data operations through the implementation of robust content management software is one path to improve data governance. Automation and other innovative technology that removes human error, reduces workloads and enhances productivity will award IT professionals with the tools and flexibility to successfully collect, process, manage and govern all their business’s data—helping organizations to get the most from their data and outpace the competition.
