U2151: UniObjects.NET Development for U2

Duration

4 hours per day / 4 days

Purpose

This course is designed to provide a hands-on experience for the UniObjects tool available for building applications using .NET and communicating with U2 data servers. The tool allows the U2 programmer to build either Client/Server or Web applications, taking advantage of the power and openness of VB.NET and C#.NET and the flexibility of the multi-value database. The three U2 .NET tools (UniObjects .Net, IBM.NET and U2.NET) are compared in the first unit but the focus is only on UniObjects .NET. You will learn to read and write records directly to the files. You also learn how to take advantage of previously written U2 subroutines by calling them from the applications created.

Audience

This course is designed for experienced developers who wish to create VB.NET or C#.NET applications to access UniData and UniVerse data servers.

Prerequisites

In order to attend this course, the student must have the following skills or completed the necessary courses.

  • Some experience with VB.NET or C#.NET (at least a one-week introductory course)
  • Experience with UniData or UniVerse or the Fundamentals course for either product. BASIC programming skills are a plus.

Objectives

After completing this course, you should be able to:

  • Connect to U2 database accounts with UniObjects .NET
  • Read from and write to U2 files with the tool
  • Manipulate records and multi-value fields using UO.NET
  • Execute U2 BASIC subroutines from any application written using UniObjects .NET
