Using RocketMyWeb

Customizing a web page to only see the content that I am interested in

Perform the following steps:

  1. With the web page open in your browser, click on the 'Edit' button in the RocketMyWeb toolbar.
  2. Drag the green filter by placing the mouse within the filter and holding down the left mouse button while moving the mouse.
  3. Position and size the filter so that it entirely encompasses an area of the page that is of interest to you. Note, you can re-size the filter using the top-left or bottom-right corners. For your guidance, RocketMyWeb places red highlights around items that have been detected within your filter.
  4. Click on the 'Edit' button once more to add additional filters.
  5. Once done, click on the 'View' button to view your selected content.
  6. If you leave the page in 'View' mode, it will appear like this when you subsequently re-visit the web site. To view the original page content, simply click on the 'Normal' button.

Working with customized web pages

Once you've customized a web page (see above), you can further refine it as follows:

  1. Drag your selected items around to change their order on the page.
  2. Click on the title text to edit the caption associated with each picked item.
  3. Optionally resize each item using the bottom-right corner of the widget.
  4. Click on the Rocket.MyWeb plus icon icon to add the content to one or more 'My Pages'.

Automatically removing specific areas from a web page

In some cases, it is more convenient to remove unwanted content from a web page rather than select the material that you wish to keep. To support this, RocketMyWeb also offers an 'exclude' mode which can be used as follows:

  1. With the web page open in your browser, click on the 'Edit' button in the RocketMyWeb toolbar.
  2. Click on the 'Edit' button a second time and select 'Switch to exclude mode'.
  3. Position and size the filter over the content that you no longer wish to see on the page.
  4. Click on the 'Edit' button to add additional filters as needed.
  5. Once done, click on the 'View' button to view your tailored web page with the selected items removed.
  6. If you leave the page in 'View' mode, it will appear like this when you subsequently re-visit the web site. To view the original page content, simply click on the 'Normal' button.

Arranging content on a single 'My Page'

RocketMyWeb can be used to display your favorite pieces of the Internet, drawn from any number of disparate web sites, on a single virtual web page called a 'My Page'. In addition, the full version of the product allows you to create an unlimited number of 'My Pages'. Create separate ones for news, entertainment, finances, hobbies etc. Best of all, each time that you view a 'My Page', you are always viewing the live Internet since RocketMyWeb continues to retrieve your favorite content directly from the originating web site.

You can add content to a 'My Page' using one of two methods:

  1. While in 'View' mode at a given web site, click on the Rocket.MyWeb plus icon button in the top-left corner of your selected content to add it to one or more of your 'My Pages'.
  2. Click on the arrow to the right of the 'My Pages' button on the RocketMyWeb toolbar and select 'Manage My Pages'. Select the desired 'My Page' on the left and add/remove page content using the list on the right.

Creating and Managing 'My Pages'

RocketMyWeb allows you to organize content drawn from various web sites onto a single virtual web page (see above). Full edition users may also create an unlimited number of 'my pages', allowing them to organize content by genre or some other criteria.

Click on the arrow to the right of the 'My Pages' button on the RocketMyWeb toolbar and select 'Manage My Pages'. This action brings up the 'Manage My Pages' dialog box, offering the following options:

  1. Your pages are summarized in the list on the left. Use the buttons above this list to create, edit or delete your 'my pages'.
  2. You can also optionally set the background color of a given page as well as set it as the 'default'. The 'default' page is the 'my page' that will be loaded when you click on the 'My Pages' button on the RocketMyWeb toolbar. Other 'My Pages' can be accessed by clicking on the arrow to the right of the button and selecting the desired page from the resulting drop-down list.
  3. The list on the right presents all content selected by green filters across all web sites. Selected content is organized on a web site basis. Bold items signify sites that are providing one or more items for your selected 'My Page' item in the left-hand list. To select additional content, expand the respective web site listing and check the box next to the desired item(s).

Working with 'My Page' content

RocketMyWeb allows you to organize content drawn from various web sites onto a single virtual web page. A few tips when viewing a 'my page':

  1. You can re-arrange your selected contents by dragging each item around by its title area (be sure not to click on the title text).
  2. RocketMyWeb automatically arranges your content based upon the size of each item and the order in which your arrange them. This can be turned off by clicking on the arrow next to the 'My Pages' button on the RocketMyWeb toolbar and selecting 'Do not auto-arrange content'. Repeat the process to restore auto-arrange.
  3. Click on the caption text of an item to edit it. Press the Enter key or click away to complete the edit.
  4. Click on the green arrow next to the title text to visit the web site from which the content was drawn.
  5. Click on the clock icon to optionally enter a refresh interval for a given item. When entered, RocketMyWeb will automatically refresh the item's content from the original web site at the interval that you specify. Each item on your page may have a different refresh interval. Enter 0 (or delete the value) to remove the refresh interval.
  6. Click on the blue minimize/restore icon to subjectively minimize or restore the size of a given item. Use the links on the far right to perform this action on all items on the page.
  7. Click on the red X to remove the item from the page.
