Rocket High Performance Option for QMF

Overview

Robust, Reliable Business Intelligence

Thousands of companies across many industries have based their business intelligence on IBM’s Query Management Facility (QMF). Rocket High Performance Option for QMF (Rocket HPO for QMF) is a suite of performance facilities that can help you extend your business intelligence to new levels of versatility, reliability, and availability in the QMF for z/OS environment.

Using Rocket/Manager and Rocket/Compiler, the two main components of Rocket HPO for QMF, you can:

  • Control resource consumption by governing ad hoc queries, dynamic queries, and report activities, both preemptively and in real time. With governing, CPU resource usage can be precisely metered out at varying levels according to any number of schedules applied to any number of QMF user groups.
  • Significantly reduce CPU resource consumption by tracking and identifying heavily used reports, and then automatically converting them into efficient COBOL programs. By converting, most reporting jobs for the enterprise can be greatly streamlined to reduce CPU consumption.

Rocket Manager

Rocket Manager consists of a group of functions that improves governing and object management, including a preemptive governor to analyze QMF queries. The governing capabilities allow you to establish controls that protect production applications while delivering on demand information.

Rocket Compiler

Rocket Compiler automates the conversion of QMF reports, queries, forms and procedures into efficient, compiled OS/VS COBOL or COBOL II programs. In addition, it automates the generation of DB2 stored procedure programs from QMF queries and general purpose application programs for accessing DB2. With the ability to streamline access to your DB2 data sources, you can reduce CPU consumption, DB2 catalog contention, DB2 Optimizer overhead, and security concerns as converted programs use static Structured Query Language (SQL) in place of dynamic SQL.
