Features
Version 3.0 of the Rocket Data Snap-Ins represents a major product release, introducing significant improvements in the product's capabilities, performance and interoperability. Key product enhancements are summarized in the following sections.
Rocket Data Importer for Microsoft® Excel
Rocket Data Importer for Microsoft Excel V 3.0 introduces the following enhancements:
- New 'modeless', non-locking user interface:
- Concurrently interact with both the snap-in and the underlying spreadsheet.
- Ability to manage multiple queries or table imports, side by side, on the same spreadsheet.
- Conveniently select and update the target cell or range of cells from directly within the snap-in dialog.
- Execute the same query or table import at multiple locations within the workbook.
- Ability to expand and collapse the snap-in dialog, allowing it to remain open on the screen while you work in other areas of the spreadsheet.
- Simultaneously display both the data importer and data exporter facilities, allowing concurrent execution of import and export operations.
- Enhanced table support provides the ability to import data from a given table and view as raw data, grouped data, or within pivot tables or charts.
- New user-defined row limits allow users to specify the maximum number of rows to fetch from a table or query execution.
- Enhanced error checking reduces the scope for database errors by validating user-supplied parameters before executing a Rocket Shuttle query.
- Updated snap-in model provides comprehensive support for Microsoft Excel 97, 2000, XP and 2003 editions.
- Enhanced data engine provides full support for both Rocket Shuttle for Windows V 7.x and Rocket Shuttle for Windows V 8.1.
- Improved resource limit handling returns results up to the query
limit threshold. For example, a request for 500 rows against a resource
limit of 300 will return 300 rows (prior versions disallowed such
requests, returning zero rows).
Note: Modeless forms are supported by Excel 2000, XP and 2003.
Rocket Data Exporter for Microsoft Excel
Rocket Data Exporter for Microsoft Excel V 3.0 introduces the following enhancements:
- New 'modeless', non-locking user interface.
- Concurrently interact with both the snap-in and the underlying spreadsheet.
- Ability to manage table exports, side by side, on the same spreadsheet.
- Conveniently select and update the source cell or range of cells from directly within the snap-in dialog.
- Ability to expand and collapse the snap-in dialog, allowing it to remain open on the screen while you work in other areas of the spreadsheet.
- Simultaneously display both the data importer and data exporter dialogs, allowing concurrent execution of import and export operations.
- Enhanced data export pre-processor allows users to substitute
values on export. For example:
- Empty cells may be exported as a given value, such as zero or 'N/A'.
- Occurrences of a given value may be substituted, such as 'Rocket Shuttle' for 'Rocket Shuttle for windows' or 123 for 456.
- New table schema facility allows the target table column names and data types to be reviewed prior to the export operation. This convenient facility, available as you work in the spreadsheet, simplifies the process of consolidating cell data type and ranges with the target table structure.
- Updated snap-in model provides comprehensive support for Microsoft Excel 97, 2000, XP and 2003 editions.
- Enhanced data engine provides full support for both Rocket Shuttle
for Windows V 7.x and Rocket Shuttle for Windows V 8.1.
Note: Modeless forms are supported by Excel 2000, XP and 2003.
