Overview

Rocket Software's Data Snap-Ins for Microsoft® Office bring the power of IBM's DB2 and Rocket Shuttle technologies to the familiar and productive environments of Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Access. By incorporating key Rocket Shuttle features directly into these applications, Rocket's Data Snap-Ins give your knowledge workers the ability to fully leverage your DB2 and Rocket Shuttle investment using their existing MS Office-based toolset.

The Rocket Data Snap-Ins product suite consists of the following components:

Rocket Data Snap-In for Microsoft Excel

  • Directly connect to DB2 running on the zSeries, iSeries or Linux/UNIX/Windows, without the need for ODBC drivers or the DB2 runtime client.
  • Ability to display a filtered or full list of all DB2 tables and/or Rocket Shuttle queries.
  • Directly import data from one or more tables or queries for concurrent display at user-defined locations within the spreadsheet.
  • Group results by up to three columns, producing a calculated summary row against a fourth column of your choosing.
  • Optionally display the data within an Excel Pivot table.
  • Directly export data from Excel into DB2:
    • Append exported data into an existing DB2 table.
    • Replace existing table contents with newly exported data.
  • Optionally apply row limits to query and/or table results, thereby limiting the number of rows returned by a given import operation.
  • Product functionality fully integrated into Excel's menu and toolbar system.
  • Operates against your existing Rocket Shuttle Server Definitions File (SDF), allowing you to centrally manage your database definitions.
