– Provides a tool set to manage DFSMShsm Control Data Sets while applications remain active –
Newton, MA – October 7, 2009 – Mainstar (www.mainstar.com), an industry-leading provider of data-management solutions in the IBM System z arena, today announced the general availability of CDS Expert, which allows users to reorganize a DFSMShsm Control Data Set while their applications are active and running, meaning that these tasks no longer need to be scheduled during the night or on weekends. The product eliminates CDS corruption due to human error, reduces CDS corruption due to hardware error, and allows users to keep vital applications active and data accessible 24×7x365.
“This is a must-have CDS management tool for any DFSMShsm environment,” says Doug Bryan, Mainstar’s Vice President of Sales and Marketing in North America. “Users will no longer have to schedule an outage months in advance, come in after hours, build multiple job streams, and prepare for hours of application outage and data unavailability; CDS Expert allows users to do this – and more – during normal business hours and when technical staff is available and on-site.”
Using CDS Expert, customers can now enlarge the size of a Control Data Set while DFSMShsm is active. CDS Expert allows the customer to increase the primary and secondary allocations, eliminating the annoying DFSMShsm messages saying the CDS is reaching its critical limit. CDS Expert gives the customer the ability to move a CDS from the current volume to a new volume seamlessly. As an example, a user may need to enlarge a CDS due to growth or changes in management class. The CDS may no longer fit on a 3390-3 volume, and it may need to be moved to a 3390-9 or larger. CDS Expert quickly and easily allows users to perform these combined functions in one pass. Additional functionality includes the ability to SIMULATE the process up to the actual Reorg of the CDS and the ability to force a backup of the CDS before any action is taken on the CDS.
CDS Expert is a comprehensive, interactive DFSMShsm CDS Management tool. For more information, visit www.mainstar.com.
