Rocket Software Launches SecurityVault to Hide Files

Software Allows Users to Create Invisible “Google-Proof” Disk Drive

Newton, Massachusetts—February 14, 2005—Encryption and password protection are the most common ways for computer users to guard their private files from prying eyes. Today Rocket Software, a Boston-based developer of Enterprise Infrastructure products, introduced SecurityVault to prevent unauthorized users from accessing files by creating a virtual hard drive visible only to registered users. Not only are hidden files inaccessible, but there is no way to even know about the existence of these files! SecurityVault can be downloaded from www.rocketsoftware.com for an introductory fee of $59.95.

The security vault provides secure ‘lockboxes’ within which confidential information can be stored. When a lockbox is open, a new drive letter is automatically added to the user’s system (e.g. drive ‘K’ may appear). Using this drive letter, users can access the contents of a lockbox in exactly the same way that they access regular disk drives. When the lockbox is closed, the drive letter is removed, along with all traces of the data stored inside. There is no record of the files saved on the “invisible disk drive” anywhere on the computer, and even the drive itself cannot be located by a third party.

Content stored in a SecurityVault lockbox cannot be crawled by Google Desktop when the drive is closed because all files are stored in a single, highly encrypted binary file system. In addition, SecurityVault automatically prevents content from being crawled even when the lockbox is left open by the user for extended periods.

Peter Richardson, Business Unit Manager at Rocket Software, said, “No matter how good a company’s network security may be, the weakest link in the chain is unauthorized access to files on desktop and laptop computers. SecurityVault allows organizations and individuals to protect their personal and corporate data by eliminating the ability to open sensitive files.”

SecurityVault is the newest addition to Rocket Software’s line of data-protection products. Earlier this year the company introduced SecurityShades, the first software plug-in that obscures the screens of laptop computers to prevent unauthorized users from “shoulder surfing.”
