Rocket Software Acquires SmartDB Product Line

Silicon Valley company’s flagship product purchased by Boston software firm

Newton, Mass.October 9, 2007 — Rocket Software (www.rocketsoftware.com), a Boston-based developer of Enterprise Infrastructure products, today announced that it has acquired the assets of SmartDB Corporation (www.smartdbcorp.com), a privately-held software developer based in Menlo Park, California.

SmartDB’s flagship product, the SmartDB Workbench™, is a tool that integrates with the Oracle E-Business Suite that IT professional and System Integrators have relied on for over a decade to simplify their data conversions and interface projects. Under the terms of the deal, current SmartDB products will be sold and supported by Rocket’s LegaSuite Business Unit. SmartDB Corporation is now focusing on its eXpresso products (www.expressocorp.com).

According to Rocket CEO Andy Youniss, “This acquisition is another step for us as we continue to build our suite of DB tools that are deployed in enterprises around the world. By using SmartDB intelligent adapters, our LegaSuite tools can now provide non-invasive connectivity to the Oracle E-Business Suite applications. A key part of our growth strategy has been to acquire market-leading products and add them to our arsenal.”

George Langan, CEO of SmartDB, says that, “We have had success with our DB-related products, and are now shifting our resources to a new line of business, eXpresso™, that is focused on Excel spreadsheet collaboration. We are confident that Rocket will do an excellent job building on our legacy and will provide excellent service to our valued customers.”
