Rocket Software Prevents Data Theft with SecurityVault Enterprise Edition

Software protects organizations by denying access to files on stolen laptops and mobile storage devices

Newton, Mass. – June 5, 2007 – Rocket Software (www.rocketsoftware.com), a Boston-based developer of Enterprise Infrastructure products, today introduced Rocket.SecurityVault Enterprise Edition, which enables organizations to prevent unauthorized users from accessing files on stolen laptops and mobile memory devices.

In an era of mobile computing, one of the biggest security risks comes not from Internet hackers, but from thieves who steal laptops, disk drives and USB memory sticks. Most data protection solutions only provide security for computers inside corporate networks. Rocket.SecurityVault Enterprise Edition gives organizations the ability to secure data, regardless of whether a device is inside the firewall.

"While some thieves are attracted to laptops because of their resale value, the more significant damage to your enterprise is caused by the loss of secret and confidential files," says Rocket CEO Andy Youniss. "Employees are increasingly using computers and mobile storage devices to store confidential corporate information, but data thefts that occur as a result of lost and stolen laptops represent a major source of loss of information confidentiality. The bottom line is that no matter how good your firewall may be, it can’t protect offline and mobile data. Rocket.SecurityVault Enterprise Edition protects information that firewalls can’t."

Rocket.SecurityVault Enterprise Edition prevents unauthorized users from accessing files by creating a virtual hard drive whose contents are visible only to registered users. Not only are hidden files inaccessible, but there is no way to even know about their existence without a password. The product provides secure "lockboxes" where confidential information is seamlessly encrypted and stored. When a lockbox is open, a new drive letter is automatically added to the user’s system. Using this drive letter, users can access the contents of a lockbox in exactly the same way that they access regular disk drives. When the lockbox is closed, however, the drive letter is removed – along with all traces of the data stored inside. Content stored in a lockbox cannot be crawled by Google Desktop when the drive is closed, and, Rocket.SecurityVault Enterprise Edition can automatically close and secure the virtual hard drive when the user leaves the lockbox open and unused for extended periods. Rocket.SecurityVault Enterprise Edition also allows organizations to manage all encrypted lockboxes centrally and to destroy protected lockboxes – and sensitive files – remotely when a PC has been stolen.

American Payroll Services, a New England-based company that processes payroll for thousands of employees, installed the Rocket.SecurityVault on all of its desktop and laptop computers. Now, the confidential information that the company uses every day is safe not only from hackers, but is also protected in the event that a computer or mobile storage device is lost or stolen. "If any of our clients’ information is compromised in any way it could lead to a catastrophic loss not only for our clients’ employees but also to our business," says company president Bill Spiegel. "Rocket.SecurityVault allows us to offer our clients the most dependable file protection, and protects our company from the risks associated with less secure systems."
