Mainstar Backup & Recovery Manager Suite (BRM) provides the tools you need to centralize backup, recovery, and application discovery simply and effectively. BRM identifies the critical data that belongs to an application and backs up all related data at a single point in time, eliminating the risk of failing to backup required files that are needed for recovery. You can easily find data set backups without knowing the location of the backup and automatically build recovery jobs, complete with data set and volume information, for recovery readiness. Backup reporting includes data sets that do not have a backup, as well as for data sets that have multiple backups. BRM provides a critical data asset list of backed-up data that proves compliance with federal regulations or internal audits and ensures that backups are retained for the appropriate amount of time.

Catalog RecoveryPlus

Mainstar Catalog RecoveryPlus (CR+) delivers powerful features that you use to back up, recover, diagnose, report on, and access data assets - even in the event of unforeseen problems ranging from human errors to natural disasters. CR+ provides 24x7 data access that can help you back up, recover, and forward recover your Integrated Catalog Facility (ICF) catalog components quickly, safely, and comprehensively. You can diagnose your ICF catalog structures with commands automatically generated for correction of identified error conditions. CR+ provides effective day-to-day ICF catalog management that can help you search across catalogs, volumes, or systems to create data set reports. CR+ also supports high availability by allowing common catalog maintenance procedures to be performed non-disruptively. At the disaster recovery site, CR+ enables rapid application availability with fast and accurate catalog and data set synchronization. CR+ simulation of all commands affecting change allows testing of procedures and verification of results in advance.

Database Backup and Recovery for DB2

Mainstar Database Backup and Recovery for DB2 (DBR for DB2) is a storage-aware backup and recovery solution that integrates storage processor fast-replication facilities with IBM® DB2® backup and recovery operations to allow instantaneous backups, reduce recovery time and simplify disaster recovery procedures while using less CPU, I/O, and storage resources. DBR for DB2 coordinates DB2 system and storage-based fast-replication facilities to back up DB2 systems quickly and effectively without using host CPU and I/O resources. DBR for DB2-generated system-level backups can be used for DB2 system recovery, application recovery, object recovery, and for DB2 disaster recovery purposes. Using an effective DBR for DB2 system-level backup methodology allows DB2 system-level backups to be used for multiple recovery purposes, saving CPU, I/O, and storage resources required to create multiple backups for specific uses.

MFA helps you keep your DFSMShsm environment trouble-free with fast, accurate, and flexible audits. With MFA, storage administrators can maintain healthy metadata environments and prevent temporary or permanent loss of data access. MFA provides extremely fast and accurate audits and diagnostics, as well as automatic corrective actions to resolve error conditions. MFA also has a multifunctional control data set management tool providing you with the ability to perform required control data set maintenance while the DFSMShsm started task is active; no application outage is required to maintain your data. This product can help reduce the possibility of control data set corruption caused by human error or DFSMShsm failures.

HSM Reporter/Manager

Mainstar HSM Reporter/Manager (HRM) provides a highly interactive and flexible method of managing and reporting on IBM® DFSMShsm™ control data sets and activity. HRM provides accurate daily and historical information which enables you to perform a control data set reorg, increase control data size, alter file attributes, and move a control data set to a new volume while DFSMShsm is active. It also allows you to run automated tasks, and access DFSMShsm reporting tools. In addition, details provided in the Health Reports allow your storage administrators to know what scheduled DFSMShsm work was completed, and what was not completed.

Linux on z/VM

Mainstar Provisioning Expert for Linux on z/VM is an enterprise tool that enables you to create, configure and manage large numbers of Linux systems running as guests under IBM® z/VM. This tool enables you to consolidate servers by replacing individual systems with virtual machines, which results in a significant administrative cost savings for software, backups, hardware maintenance, and support personnel. The product enables you to configure the virtual hardware and software for each Linux system it manages. You can reuse configuration data to easily make many Linux systems with identical or similar configurations. The creation and configuration of Linux systems is fully automated, which allows fast, consistent, reliable and unattended operations. The product is integrated with your existing z/VM directory management tool and uses it to manage z/VM resources such as guest OS definitions and DASD. Other resources, such as network address spaces, are managed by the product itself.

MXI for z/OS

Mainstar MXI for z/OS® (MXI) is a tool for IBM® z/OS® system programmers, storage administrators, and capacity planners to observe current mainframe configuration and activity. It can be extended through plug-ins to add focus and depth to specific areas such as IBM CICS®, data set and volume storage, TCP/IP, and IBM DB2®. It supports additional off-mainframe analytics and presentation. MXI provides system programmers ready access to critical information about the active IBM z/OS system. MXI creates an interactive, analytical representation of your site's entire DASD population, collecting and sorting DASD volume and data set information. You can drill down to specific detail without combing through reports. In addition, MXI offers flexible reporting options that present DASD volume and data set information in online or batch reports, formatted in any sequence or combination. VCR also takes care of updating all of the cloned DB2 internals, resulting in a clone that is ready in minutes rather than days. VCR provides greater data access by simplifying and automating the process of cloning entire DB2 subsystems or tables and indexes quickly and easily. Add-on functionality in Fast Table Space Refresh for DB2 (FTR) clones table and index spaces quickly by data set, using any fast or slow copy facility. The FTR feature automates manual processes, such as object ID translation between source and target subsystems.
