ICE Version 6 Release 2

— filed under:

The latest release, Rocket ICE V6.2, was made available on March 30, 2007.

This release contains 16 new features and introduced a new look for ASTRAC ICE with an optional windowing interface and support for a mouse and scroll bars.

The new windowing interface first introduced in ICE V6.1 was extended in V 6.2 and includes the SQL Assist feature also introduced in ICE V6.1. SQL Assist was designed to help you build and validate SQL statements.

Enhancements to the ICE Windowing Interface in ICE Version 6.2

a) The standard Input and Help windows can now be displayed either horizontally (landscape orientation) or vertically (portrait orientation).

Example of landscape orientation:

Example of portrait orientation:

The size of each window is adjustable.

For example if you want to increase the size of the Input window just click to the right of the scroll thumb in the top bar. Conversely if you want to increase the size of the Help window click to the left of the scroll thumb in the top bar.

b) Other information such as the results of a query or a list of available ICE commands are displayed in a new pop-up window that overlays the existing Input and Help windows.

Example of query results in the new pop-up window:

The orientation of the pop-up window can be changed to either landscape or portrait depending on your preference.

This pop-up window can also be removed by pressing F3 Cancel or clicking on the background Help window.

c) On screen function key definitions are displayed by clicking on 'F1-12' in either the Input or Help windows.

A pop-up window is then displayed showing the function keys and their definitions. These function key windows will change position and size depending on the current orientation. If required, the function key window can be removed by again clicking on 'F1-12'

Example of Input and Help window function keys in landscape orientation:

Example of Input and Help window function keys in portrait orientation:

In previous versions of ICE the function key definitions were permanently displayed. By allowing them both to be hidden until required increases the amount of on-screen space available for user input or viewing of the Help window text.

d) SQL Assist also benefits from the new interface design.

One example allows the SQL clauses to be displayed in their own window instead of within the top yellow Help window bar in ICE V 6.1.

Example of SQL Assist clause display in portrait orientation:

This display makes it easy to build your SQL statements by simple mouse clicks. The SQL clause display window can be removed by clicking on HIDE. Also the SQL clause display window will change its size and position depending on the current orientation.
